  • Measuring spoons
  • A mixing bowl
  • A spatula
  • A recipe book or printed recipe
  • A pen or pencil

Activities

  1. Activity 1: Measuring Water

Fill a measuring cup with water up to the 1/2 cup line. Pour it into a mixing bowl. Practice pouring water up to different measurement lines like 1/4 cup, 1 cup, etc. You can also try measuring different amounts of water and pouring them into different containers.

  2. Activity 2: Measuring Flour

Take a measuring cup and scoop flour into it. Level off the excess flour using a spatula. Try measuring different amounts of flour and compare them. You can also try measuring flour for a recipe and see how it changes when you add more or less.

  3. Activity 3: Following a Recipe

Choose a simple recipe from your recipe book or print one out. Read the recipe together and identify the different measurements mentioned. Follow the recipe step-by-step, measuring the ingredients accurately and mixing them as instructed. Enjoy the final dish!

Talking Points

  • Measuring cups and spoons help us measure ingredients accurately. They have different lines or numbers to show different amounts.

  • When we measure liquids like water, we pour them into the measuring cup and make sure the liquid reaches the correct line.

  • When we measure dry ingredients like flour, we scoop them into the measuring cup and level off the excess using a spatula.

  • Recipes are like instructions for cooking. They tell us what ingredients we need and how much of each ingredient to use.

  • By following a recipe and measuring the ingredients correctly, we can create delicious meals and treats!
