Talking Points

  • Bald Eagles are majestic birds. They have a white head and tail, and a dark brown body. They are known for their sharp eyesight and strong beaks and talons.

  • Bald Eagles build large nests called eyries. They often choose tall trees near bodies of water to build their nests. The nests can be as big as a car and weigh up to a ton!

  • Bald Eagles are skilled hunters. They mainly eat fish, but they can also catch small mammals and birds. They use their sharp talons to snatch their prey out of the water or from the ground.

  • Bald Eagles are a symbol of the United States. They are often associated with freedom and strength. In fact, they are the national bird and national animal of the United States.

  • Bald Eagles were once endangered. Due to habitat loss and hunting, their population declined significantly. However, conservation efforts have helped them make a comeback, and now they are no longer considered endangered.
