By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about a cosmetology technique or tool.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or pen
  • Access to the internet or cosmetology books (optional)

Before starting the lesson, it would be helpful for the student to have some basic knowledge about different cosmetology techniques and tools.

Activities

  1. Research: Have the student research different cosmetology techniques or tools that interest them. They can use the internet or cosmetology books to gather information about the purpose, usage, and benefits of each technique or tool.
  2. Choose a Favorite: Once the student has gathered enough information, ask them to choose one technique or tool that they find most fascinating or enjoyable.
  3. Descriptive Paragraph: Instruct the student to write a descriptive paragraph about their chosen technique or tool. The paragraph should include details about its appearance, function, and any unique features. Encourage the use of vivid language and sensory details to bring the description to life.
  4. Peer Review: Have the student exchange their paragraphs with a classmate or family member for feedback. The reviewer should provide constructive comments on areas that could be improved, such as clarity, organization, or use of descriptive language.
  5. Revise and Edit: Based on the feedback received, ask the student to revise and edit their paragraph. Emphasize the importance of clarity, coherence, and proper grammar and spelling.
  6. Final Presentation: Give the student an opportunity to present their descriptive paragraph to the class or family. Encourage them to read it aloud with confidence and enthusiasm. After the presentation, allow time for questions and feedback from the audience.
