Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe key characteristics of mammals.
Materials and Prep
- Pen and paper
- Computer with internet access (optional)
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Research and Report:
Have the student research and choose a specific mammal they find interesting. They should gather information on its habitat, diet, physical characteristics, and any unique adaptations. Once they have collected the information, ask them to create a report or presentation to share their findings.
-
Mammal Classification:
Provide the student with a list of different mammals. Ask them to classify these mammals into different groups based on common characteristics (e.g., size, diet, habitat). Encourage them to think critically and justify their classifications.
-
Mammal Adaptations:
Discuss with the student the various adaptations that mammals have developed to survive in different environments. Ask them to choose a specific mammal and identify and explain its adaptations. They can create a visual representation or write a short essay to demonstrate their understanding.
