Activities

  1. Start by watching a short video about horses together. Here's a link to a kid-friendly video: Horses for Kids.

  2. After watching the video, ask the student to draw a picture of a horse on a piece of paper or in their notebook. Encourage them to include details like the horse's mane, tail, and hooves.

  3. Discuss the different parts of a horse's body using the drawing as a reference. Talk about the horse's head, neck, body, legs, and tail. Explain the purpose of each body part, for example, the head is where the horse's eyes, ears, and mouth are located.

  4. Ask the student to color their horse drawing using their coloring materials. Encourage them to use realistic colors or be creative with their choices.

  5. Next, discuss the basic needs of horses. Explain that horses need food, water, shelter, and exercise to stay healthy. Ask the student to think about what horses eat and drink, and where they might live.

  6. As an extension activity, you can print out pictures of different horse breeds and have the student identify the differences in their physical characteristics. Alternatively, you can search for horse images online and discuss the different breeds together.
