Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply arithmetic skills to solve math problems while having fun with an Among Us theme.
Materials and Prep
- Pencil and paper
- Calculator (optional)
- Basic knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Activities
- Task 1: Emergency Meeting Addition: Create a list of addition problems related to Among Us. For example, "If there are 4 crewmates in the cafeteria and 2 more join, how many crewmates are there in total?" Solve each problem and write down the answers.
- Task 2: Suspect Subtraction: Write down subtraction problems related to Among Us. For instance, "If there are 8 players in the game and 3 are impostors, how many crewmates are there?" Solve each problem and record the answers.
- Task 3: Multiplication Madness: Come up with multiplication problems using Among Us scenarios. For example, "If each crewmate has 2 tasks to complete and there are 5 crewmates, how many tasks are there in total?" Solve the problems and keep track of the answers.
- Task 4: Dividing the Crew: Create division problems with an Among Us twist. For instance, "If there are 12 crewmates and they need to be divided into 3 groups equally, how many crewmates will be in each group?" Solve the problems and write down the answers.
Talking Points
- Addition: "In Among Us, we often need to count crewmates or items. Addition helps us find the total when we combine numbers. For example, if we have 3 crewmates in one room and 2 crewmates in another, we can add them together to find out how many crewmates are there in total."
- Subtraction: "Subtraction is useful when we want to find out how many crewmates are left after some have been removed. For instance, if there are 8 players in Among Us and 3 are impostors, we can subtract the impostors from the total to find out how many crewmates are there."
- Multiplication: "Sometimes, we need to multiply numbers in Among Us. For example, if each crewmate has to complete the same number of tasks and we know how many crewmates there are, we can multiply to find out how many tasks need to be done in total."
- Division: "Division helps us split things equally. In Among Us, if we have a certain number of crewmates and want to divide them into groups, we can use division to find out how many crewmates will be in each group."
