Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and locate different states on a map.
Materials and Prep
- A world map or a map of the United States
- Coloring pencils or markers
- A list of state names
Activities
- Activity 1: Map Coloring - Give the student a map and ask them to color each state with a different color. This will help them visualize the different states and their shapes.
- Activity 2: State Identification - Show the student a list of state names and ask them to locate each state on the map. Encourage them to use the colors they assigned to each state in Activity 1.
- Activity 3: State Capitals - Introduce the concept of state capitals and ask the student to locate and label the capitals of a few states on the map. This will help them understand that each state has a capital city.
