Talking Points

  • Mammals are a group of animals that have fur or hair on their bodies. They are warm-blooded, which means they can regulate their body temperature.
  • Mammals give birth to live young ones, unlike other animals that lay eggs. Can you think of any mammals you know?
  • Mammals have different ways of moving. Some walk on four legs, like dogs and cats, while others walk on two legs, like humans. Some can even fly, like bats!
  • Mammals come in various sizes. The blue whale is the largest mammal, while the bumblebee bat is the smallest. It's fascinating how mammals can be so different in size!
  • Mammals have different diets. Some are herbivores and eat only plants, while others are carnivores and eat meat. There are also omnivorous mammals that eat both plants and meat. Do you know any examples?
  • Mammals play important roles in the ecosystem. They help with pollination, seed dispersal, and even control populations of other animals. They are vital for maintaining balance in nature.
  • Did you know that humans are mammals too? We share many similarities with other mammals, such as having hair, being warm-blooded, and giving birth to live young ones.
  • Mammals have adapted to various environments around the world. Some live in the hot deserts, while others thrive in freezing cold climates. They have unique features that help them survive in their habitats.
