Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand basic weather concepts and create weather-related art projects.
Materials and Prep
- Construction paper (various colors)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or crayons
- Cotton balls
- Empty plastic bottle
- Water
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Create a Weather Collage: Cut out pictures from old magazines or draw different weather elements (sun, clouds, rain, etc.) on construction paper. Glue them onto a larger piece of paper to create a weather collage.
- Cotton Ball Clouds: Use glue to attach cotton balls onto a piece of blue construction paper to create fluffy clouds. Discuss how clouds are formed and what they look like.
- Rainy Day Art: Dip the empty plastic bottle in water and then press it onto a piece of paper to create raindrop patterns. Use markers or crayons to draw an umbrella or rain boots next to the raindrops.
- Weather Drawing: Ask the student to draw their favorite weather scene using markers or crayons. Encourage them to include different weather elements and explain their drawing.
Talking Points
- "Weather is what we feel outside. It can be sunny, cloudy, rainy, or even snowy."
- "Clouds are made up of tiny drops of water or ice. They can look fluffy or like a big gray blanket."
- "Rain is water that falls from the clouds. It helps plants grow and fills up our rivers and lakes."
- "When it's sunny, we see the bright yellow sun in the sky. It can make us feel warm."
- "Drawing and creating art can help us express what we think and feel about the weather."
- "Let's use our imagination to draw our favorite weather scene. What colors will you use?"
