Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to explore and understand the history of familiar and unfamiliar objects and places.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencils
  • Access to a computer or tablet with internet
  • Optional: Books or magazines about history

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a basic understanding of what history is and be prepared to guide the student through the activities.

Activities

  1. Draw and Describe: Ask the student to choose a familiar object from their surroundings, such as a toy or a piece of furniture. Have them draw the object and then write a short description of what they think its history might be. Encourage creativity and imagination.
  2. Time Travel Research: Together with the student, use a computer or tablet to research a famous historical place or object that they are unfamiliar with. Help them find information about its history, significance, and any interesting stories associated with it.
  3. Historical Show and Tell: Ask the student to find an object or picture from the past that they find interesting. It could be a photograph of a family member, an old toy, or a book about a historical event. Have them share the object or picture with you and explain why they find it fascinating.
