Materials and Prep

  • Library card (if available)
  • Pencil and paper
  • Computer or tablet with internet access (optional)

Activities

  • Activity 1: Explore the Library
  • Visit your local library or explore an online library if you don't have access to a physical one. Look for the section with books about stars. Take note of the different books available and their titles.

  • Activity 2: Book Search
  • Using the library's catalog (either online or with the help of a librarian), search for books specifically about stars. Write down the call numbers or titles of interesting books you find.

  • Activity 3: Book Selection
  • Choose one or two books about stars that caught your attention. Use the call numbers or titles you wrote down to locate them on the library shelves. If you are using an online library, check if the books are available for borrowing or reading online.

  • Activity 4: Reading and Learning
  • Read the selected books and explore the information about stars. Take notes on interesting facts, new vocabulary, or any questions you have.

Talking Points

  • Libraries are great places to find books on different topics. They have sections organized by subjects, making it easier to find books about stars.
  • A librarian can help you find books about stars if you're not sure where to look. They are friendly and knowledgeable about the library's collection.
  • The library's catalog is like an index that lists all the books available. You can search for specific topics, like stars, to find books that match your interests.
  • Call numbers are like addresses for books in the library. They help you locate the books on the shelves.
  • When choosing books, it's important to look at the cover, read the summary, and flip through the pages to see if the book has the information you're looking for.
  • While reading the books, pay attention to new words and interesting facts about stars. You can write them down to remember and ask questions about them later.
