Before starting the lesson, it would be helpful for the student to have a basic understanding of the concept of terrorism and the role of the United States in world affairs.

Activities

1. Watch a documentary or video about 9/11, such as "9/11: The Day That Changed the World". Encourage the student to take notes on important facts or events.

2. Research and create a timeline of the events leading up to and following 9/11. Include key dates, such as the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the subsequent invasion of Afghanistan.

3. Write a short essay or create a presentation about the impact of 9/11 on the United States. Discuss how it affected national security, foreign policy, and the lives of ordinary citizens.

4. Engage in a discussion with the student about their thoughts and feelings regarding 9/11. Encourage them to ask questions and express any concerns they may have.

• What was 9/11? On September 11, 2001, a group of terrorists hijacked four airplanes and carried out coordinated attacks on the United States. These attacks targeted the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

• Who carried out the attacks? The attacks were orchestrated by a terrorist group called Al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden. They believed that the United States was an enemy of Islam and sought to inflict harm on the country.

• What happened at the World Trade Center? Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, causing them to collapse. This resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and extensive damage to the surrounding area.

• What happened at the Pentagon? Another plane crashed into the Pentagon, which is the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense. This attack caused significant damage and loss of life.
