Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and identify phonetic sounds associated with words related to dinosaurs, trains, books, trucks, and PJ Masks.

Materials and Prep

  • Flashcards or pictures of dinosaurs, trains, books, trucks, and PJ Masks characters
  • A whiteboard or a large sheet of paper
  • Colored markers or crayons

Activities

  • Create a Phonics Wall: Write down the letters of the alphabet on the whiteboard or large sheet of paper. Have the student place flashcards or pictures of dinosaurs, trains, books, trucks, and PJ Masks characters under the corresponding letter that the word starts with. For example, the dinosaur picture goes under the letter "D".
  • Phonics Hunt: Hide flashcards or pictures of dinosaurs, trains, books, trucks, and PJ Masks characters around the house. Encourage the student to find them and say the name of each object out loud, emphasizing the beginning sound.
  • Phonics Sorting Game: Prepare two baskets or containers labeled "D" and "T". Show the student flashcards or pictures of dinosaurs and trains one at a time. Ask the student to identify the beginning sound of each word and place the card in the corresponding basket.
  • Phonics Story Time: Read a phonics-based book that incorporates words related to dinosaurs, trains, books, trucks, or PJ Masks. Pause at certain words and ask the student to identify the beginning sound of each word.
