Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and produce phonetic sounds through engaging activities using Playdough.

Materials and Prep

  • Playdough in various colors
  • A clean and flat surface for working with Playdough

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  • Playdough Letter Matching: Roll out the Playdough and shape it into different letters of the alphabet. Encourage the student to identify the letter sounds as they play with each letter.
  • Phonetic Sound Sculptures: Ask the student to create Playdough sculptures of objects that start with different phonetic sounds. Help them identify the initial sound of each object and emphasize the sound as they shape the Playdough.
  • Playdough Rhyme Time: Choose a simple word and ask the student to create Playdough objects that rhyme with it. Encourage them to focus on the ending sound of each word as they mold the Playdough.
  • Playdough Sound Hunt: Hide small objects around the room that represent different phonetic sounds. Ask the student to find the objects and place them on Playdough shapes that correspond to their initial sound.
