Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create art inspired by ancient Egypt, Greece, or Rome, while learning about the culture and history of these civilizations.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper or sketchbook
  • Pencils, erasers, and sharpeners
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Reference books or online resources about ancient Egypt, Greece, or Rome

Prior knowledge of basic drawing techniques would be helpful, but not required.

Activities

  1. Create a Timeline

    Research and create a timeline of the major events and achievements of the chosen civilization. Use drawings, symbols, or words to represent each event on your timeline.

  2. Design a Mythical Creature

    Combine elements from different ancient civilizations to design your own mythical creature. Use your knowledge of the characteristics and symbols associated with gods, goddesses, and animals in these cultures to create a unique and visually interesting creature.

  3. Draw a Portrait

    Select a famous figure from ancient Egypt, Greece, or Rome and draw their portrait. Pay attention to their clothing, accessories, and any distinctive features that represent their culture. You can also add background elements to further enhance the historical context.
