Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 4-year-old student will be able to recognize rhyme in books.
Materials and Prep
- A selection of children's books with rhymes
- A comfortable reading area
Activities
Read a rhyming book aloud to the student, emphasizing the rhyming words and encouraging them to listen for the similar sounds.
Ask the student to identify the rhyming words in the book by pointing to them or repeating them back to you.
Encourage the student to come up with their own rhyming words. For example, give them a word like "cat" and ask them to think of other words that rhyme with it.
Play a rhyming word game where you say a word and the student has to come up with a rhyming word. Take turns and make it fun!
Read another rhyming book together and have the student try to anticipate the rhyming words as you read.
