Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create their own butterfly artwork using basic art materials.
Materials and Prep
- Construction paper (various colors)
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Markers or crayons
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Activity 1: Butterfly Collage
- Activity 2: Symmetrical Butterfly
- Activity 3: Butterfly Finger Painting
Provide the student with different colored construction paper. Instruct them to cut out butterfly shapes using the scissors. They can then arrange and glue the butterfly shapes onto a larger piece of construction paper to create a butterfly collage.
Show the student a picture of a butterfly and explain that butterflies have symmetrical patterns on their wings. Provide them with a blank piece of construction paper and markers or crayons. Encourage them to draw and color a butterfly, making sure to create the same design on both sides to make it symmetrical.
Show the student how to dip their finger into paint and create butterfly shapes by pressing their finger onto the paper. They can use different colors to make a colorful butterfly finger painting.
