Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to express their creativity through art, improve their English vocabulary, practice basic math skills, explore music through rhythm and movement, and engage in physical activity.

Materials and Prep

  • Blank paper
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Unicorn-themed storybook
  • Counting objects (could be small toys, buttons, or even snacks)
  • Space for movement activities
  • Optional: Musical instruments or objects that can create sounds (e.g., pots and pans, plastic containers)

Activities

  • Create a Unicorn Artwork: Encourage the student to draw and color their own unicorn using the blank paper and crayons or colored pencils. They can let their imagination run wild and decorate the unicorn however they like.
  • Read a Unicorn Story: Read a unicorn-themed storybook together, discussing the characters, setting, and plot. Encourage the student to ask questions and share their thoughts about the story.
  • Counting Unicorn Objects: Place a bunch of counting objects (e.g., small unicorn toys) in front of the student. Ask them to count and sort the objects based on different criteria (e.g., color, size). Practice counting aloud together.
  • Unicorn Dance Party: Play some upbeat music and have a unicorn dance party! Encourage the student to move and dance freely, imitating the movements and gracefulness of unicorns. You can also introduce basic dance steps like jumping, spinning, and twirling.
  • Unicorn Fitness Challenge: Set up a mini obstacle course or create stations with different physical activities (e.g., jumping jacks, hopping on one foot, crawling under a table). Guide the student through the challenge, pretending to be magical unicorns completing each task.

Talking Points

  • "Unicorns are magical creatures that have a horn on their forehead. They are often depicted as beautiful and graceful."
  • "Let's use our imagination and draw our own unicorn artwork. What colors do you want to use? What special features will your unicorn have?"
  • "Reading is a fun way to learn new things. In this storybook, we will meet different characters and go on an adventure with unicorns."
  • "Counting helps us understand numbers. Let's practice counting the unicorn objects together. Can you count them out loud?"
  • "Music can make us feel happy and energetic. Let's have a unicorn dance party and move our bodies to the rhythm. Can you twirl like a unicorn?"
  • "Physical activity is important for our bodies. We can pretend to be unicorns and complete different challenges. Can you hop like a unicorn?"
