Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand basic math concepts related to water.
Materials and Prep
- Water (in a container)
- Measuring cup
- Empty bottles or cups
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Activity 1: Measuring Water
- Activity 2: Filling Bottles
- Activity 3: Water Addition
Ask the student to pour water from the container into the measuring cup and observe the numbers on the cup. Encourage them to measure different amounts of water and compare the numbers.
Provide the student with empty bottles or cups of different sizes. Ask them to fill each container with water and compare the amount of water each container can hold. Discuss concepts like "more" and "less" based on the water levels.
During this activity, demonstrate simple addition using water. Pour a certain amount of water into one container and ask the student to add a specific amount of water to it. Let them observe the combined water level and discuss the result.
Talking Points
- "Water is a very important resource that we use every day."
- "We can measure how much water is in a container using a measuring cup."
- "Different containers can hold different amounts of water."
- "When we add water to a container, the water level increases."
- "We can compare the amount of water in different containers by looking at the water levels."
- "Adding water to a container makes the amount of water bigger."
