By the end of this lesson, the 2-year-old student will be able to identify and name different farm animals.

Materials and Prep

  • Pictures or drawings of farm animals
  • A small toy farm set, if available
  • A book about farm animals
  • Optional: Animal sounds recording or video

Activities

  • Show and Tell: Begin by showing the pictures or drawings of farm animals to the student. Discuss each animal, their names, and the sounds they make. Encourage the student to repeat the animal names and sounds.
  • Play with Farm Set: If you have a small toy farm set, let the student explore and play with it. Point out the different animals and ask the student to identify them. Encourage imaginative play and make animal sounds together.
  • Read a Book: Read a book about farm animals to the student. Point out the animals in the pictures and ask the student to name them. Make the animal sounds as you come across each animal.
  • Animal Sounds Game: If you have an animal sounds recording or video, play it for the student. Pause after each animal sound and ask the student to identify the corresponding animal. Encourage the student to imitate the sounds.

Talking Points

  • "Look at this picture! This is a cow. Can you say 'cow'?"
  • "Now let's play with the farm set. Can you find the pig? What sound does a pig make? Oink oink!"
  • "In this book, we have a picture of a horse. Can you say 'horse'? What sound does a horse make? Neigh!"
  • "Listen carefully to this sound. Which animal do you think makes this sound? That's right, it's a duck! Can you quack like a duck?"
