Objective
By the end of this pottery lesson, you will be able to create your own clay masterpiece using only your hands and imagination!
Materials and Prep
- Air-dry clay
- A clean work surface
- A small bowl of water
- A set of clay sculpting tools (optional)
Before starting the lesson, make sure your hands are clean and dry. Find a comfortable spot where you can work without any distractions.
Activities
Start by taking a small piece of air-dry clay and rolling it between your hands to make a ball. This will be the base of your pottery.
Once you have your clay ball, use your fingers to gently press and shape it into your desired pottery form. You can make a bowl, a cup, or even a sculpture of your favorite animal!
If you have clay sculpting tools, you can use them to add details and texture to your pottery. Experiment with different patterns and designs.
Remember to keep your hands slightly wet by dipping them in the bowl of water. This will help smooth out any rough edges and make the clay easier to work with.
Once you are happy with your pottery creation, set it aside to dry. Depending on the type of clay, it may take a few hours or a couple of days to completely dry and harden.
