Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will understand basic concepts of biology through activities related to Barbie dolls.
Materials and Prep
- Barbie dolls or any other dolls
- Paper and crayons
- Optional: Small magnifying glass
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Observe and describe: Have your Barbie dolls ready. Look closely at their features, such as eyes, hair, and skin. Take turns describing what you see, using words like color, shape, and texture. Draw a picture of your favorite Barbie and label its features.
- Body parts matching: Cut out pictures of different body parts from magazines or draw them yourself. Mix them up and ask the student to match the correct body parts to the Barbie dolls. For example, match a picture of an eye to the Barbie's eye, a picture of a hand to the Barbie's hand, etc.
- Life cycle exploration: Discuss the life cycle of a butterfly with the student. Explain that just like butterflies, humans also go through different stages of life. Use the Barbie dolls to act out the life cycle stages of a butterfly, starting with an egg, then a caterpillar, a chrysalis, and finally a butterfly.
