Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create different rhythms and sounds using egg shakers.
Materials and Prep
- Egg shakers
No additional preparation required.
Activities
Activity 1: Shake It Up
Have the student hold an egg shaker in each hand and demonstrate how to shake them to create different sounds. Encourage the student to explore different shaking techniques, such as shaking fast or slow, shaking softly or loudly, and shaking in different directions.
Activity 2: Follow the Leader
Play a simple rhythm using the egg shaker and have the student try to imitate the rhythm. Start with basic patterns and gradually increase the complexity as the student becomes more comfortable.
Activity 3: Musical Storytelling
Ask the student to think of a story or a scene from their favorite book or movie. Have them use the egg shaker to create sound effects that match the different elements of the story. For example, they can shake softly to represent a light rain, or shake vigorously to represent thunder.
Talking Points
- Shaking the egg shakers makes a sound. It's like a little musical instrument!
- We can shake the egg shakers in different ways to make different sounds. We can shake them fast or slow, softly or loudly.
- When we play a rhythm, it means we make a pattern of sounds. We can try to copy the rhythm that someone else plays.
- We can use the egg shakers to tell a story or make sound effects. We can imagine different things and make sounds that match them.
