Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 4-year-old student will be able to identify and name various tools, understand their uses, and engage in hands-on activities related to tools.
Materials and Prep
- Toy tools (hammer, screwdriver, wrench, etc.)
- Construction paper
- Markers or crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
- Blank paper
- Optional: Tool-themed books or videos
Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with the different tools and their uses. Set up a safe and comfortable workspace for the student to engage in hands-on activities.
Activities
- Tool Identification: Show the student different toy tools and ask them to name each one. Discuss the uses of each tool and demonstrate how they are used.
- Tool Collage: Provide the student with construction paper, markers or crayons, scissors, and glue. Ask them to draw and cut out pictures of tools from magazines or create their own tool drawings. Help them glue the tools onto the construction paper to create a tool collage.
- Tool Sorting: Prepare a variety of real or toy tools. Ask the student to sort the tools into different categories based on their function (e.g., cutting tools, measuring tools, building tools). Encourage them to explain their sorting choices.
- Tool Hunt: Hide various toy tools around the learning area. Give the student verbal clues to find each tool. Once they find a tool, have them name it and describe its use.
