Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have a basic understanding of the United States and its symbols.
Materials and Prep
- Map of the United States
- Printouts of United States symbols (flag, eagle, Statue of Liberty, etc.)
- Coloring materials
- Scissors
- Glue
Prior knowledge required: Basic understanding of colors and shapes.
Activities
- Identify the United States on the map: Show the map of the United States to the student and ask them to point to it. Encourage them to say the name "United States" out loud.
- Color the United States flag: Give the student a printout of the United States flag and let them color it using crayons or colored pencils. Explain that the flag has red and white stripes and stars on a blue background.
- Create a United States collage: Provide the student with printouts of different United States symbols. Help them cut out the symbols and glue them onto a piece of paper to create a collage. Encourage them to talk about each symbol as they glue it down.
