Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 2-year-old student will have a basic understanding and appreciation for water.
Materials and Prep
- A small basin or tub
- A few water toys (e.g., rubber duck, plastic cups)
- A towel
- A waterproof apron or old clothes
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Water Play: Fill the basin or tub with some water and let the student explore and play with the water toys. Encourage pouring, splashing, and feeling the water with their hands.
- Duck Race: Place two plastic ducks at one end of the basin and show the student how to blow on them to make them move. Have a mini race and cheer for the ducks as they swim.
- Water Transfer: Give the student two plastic cups and demonstrate how to fill one cup with water from the basin and pour it into the other cup. Encourage the student to try it themselves.
- Wet and Dry: Show the student a towel and explain that it can absorb water and make things dry. Demonstrate by dipping the towel in the water and then using it to dry the student's hands or a toy.
Talking Points
- Water is wet and feels cool. It can make our hands and toys wet too.
- We can pour water from one cup to another. It's fun to watch the water move.
- Ducks can swim in water. We can make them move by blowing on them.
- A towel can soak up water and make things dry again.
