Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create diorama houses for figures based on different designs.

Materials and Prep

  • Cardboard or shoeboxes
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers or colored pencils
  • Construction paper
  • Figurines or small toys
  • Magazines or printed images for inspiration

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Encourage the student to think of different types of houses or environments they would like to create for their figures. They can draw or write down their ideas.
  2. Design and Cut: Using the cardboard or shoeboxes, guide the student to cut out walls, floors, and a roof for their diorama house. They can create multiple rooms or levels if desired.
  3. Decorate: Provide the student with markers, colored pencils, and construction paper to add details and colors to their diorama house. They can create windows, doors, furniture, and any other decorations they like.
  4. Arrange and Glue: Once the diorama house is decorated, help the student arrange their figurines or small toys inside the house. They can create scenes or stories with the figures. Once satisfied with the arrangement, assist them in gluing the figures in place.
  5. Final Touches: Encourage the student to add any final touches or additional details to their diorama house. They can use magazines or printed images for inspiration to create outdoor scenery or accessories for the house.
  6. Show and Tell: After completing the diorama house, provide an opportunity for the student to present their creation to family members or friends. They can explain their design choices and the story behind their diorama.
