Objective

By the end of this lesson, the 3-year-old homeschool student will have fun exploring various subjects while incorporating their love for cooking.

Materials and Prep

  • Access to music or musical instruments
  • Open space for physical activities

Activities

  • Art: Have the student draw their favorite food or create a collage using food pictures from magazines.
  • English: Read a storybook about cooking and encourage the student to identify different objects or actions in the pictures.
  • Foreign Language: Teach the student simple cooking-related words in a foreign language, such as "hello" and "thank you."
  • History: Introduce the concept of cooking throughout history by discussing how people used to cook without modern appliances.
  • Math: Engage the student in counting and measuring ingredients while cooking a simple recipe together.
  • Music: Play some music in the background while cooking and encourage the student to dance or clap along to the rhythm.
  • Physical Education: Set up a mini obstacle course using kitchen objects, where the student can crawl under tables, jump over cushions, and balance on lines.
  • Science: Conduct simple experiments related to cooking, such as observing how water boils or how ingredients change when mixed.
  • Social Studies: Discuss different cuisines from around the world and show pictures of traditional dishes.

  • English: "Can you find the spoon in the picture? What do we use a spoon for?"
