  • Pencils, erasers, and colored pencils or markers
  • Reference images of different vending machines

No prior knowledge or experience is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Research and Explore: Encourage the student to look up different types of vending machines online or in books. They can take note of the colors, shapes, and items typically found in vending machines.
  2. Design Your Own Vending Machine: Have the student use their imagination to create a unique and whimsical vending machine on paper. They can incorporate elements from their favorite hobbies, interests, or even fictional characters.
  3. Add Details: Once the basic design is complete, encourage the student to add details to their vending machine artwork. They can include buttons, labels, and even small illustrations of the items inside the machine.
  4. Color and Shade: After finishing the line art, the student can use colored pencils or markers to bring their vending machine to life. They can experiment with different shading techniques to add depth and dimension to their artwork.
  5. Show and Tell: Finally, ask the student to share their finished artwork with you or other family members. They can explain the inspiration behind their design and what items they would love to find in their imaginary vending machine.
