Materials and Prep
- Glass of water
- Pen and paper
- Access to a sink or water source
- No prior knowledge required
Activities
- Activity 1: Hydration Experiment
Fill two glasses with water, one cold and one at room temperature. Observe what happens to the glasses over time. Write down your observations and discuss why water is important for our bodies. - Activity 2: Water Cycle Drawing
Draw a picture illustrating the water cycle. Label the different stages and explain how water moves through the cycle. Use colors and creativity to make it fun! - Activity 3: Water Relay Race
Set up a relay race in your backyard or a safe space. Divide into teams and have each team member carry a cup of water from one point to another. Discuss how water is essential for our bodies to function properly.
Talking Points
- Water is essential for our bodies: "Did you know that our bodies are made up of about 60% water? That means water is really important for us to stay healthy and function properly."
- Water helps with digestion and nutrient absorption: "When we drink water, it helps our bodies break down the food we eat and absorb all the important nutrients from it. It keeps our digestive system working smoothly."
- Water helps regulate body temperature: "Water is like a natural air conditioner for our bodies. It helps us stay cool when it's hot outside by making us sweat. Sweating is our body's way of cooling down."
- Water carries waste out of our bodies: "Our bodies produce waste that needs to be removed. Water helps flush out those waste materials through urine and sweat. It keeps our bodies clean and healthy."
- Water is part of the water cycle: "Water is always on the move! It evaporates from oceans, lakes, and rivers, forms clouds, and then falls back to the ground as rain or snow. This is called the water cycle."
