Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a better understanding of photography and its various elements, as well as develop their creative skills through hands-on activities.

Materials and Prep

  • A camera (can be a smartphone camera if available)
  • A computer or tablet with photo editing software (optional)
  • Access to the internet for research (optional)
  • No prior knowledge or experience required

Activities

  • Activity 1: Introduction to Photography
    Take some time to research the history of photography and its importance in capturing moments. Write a short paragraph summarizing what you learned.
  • Activity 2: Exploring Camera Functions
    Experiment with the different settings and functions on your camera. Take photos using various modes like auto, manual, and different scene modes. Write down your observations and any questions you have.
  • Activity 3: Composition and Framing
    Practice composing and framing your shots. Experiment with different angles, perspectives, and the rule of thirds. Take photos of different subjects and write a reflection on how the composition affects the overall impact of the image.
  • Activity 4: Editing and Enhancing
    If you have access to photo editing software, try enhancing and editing your photos. Experiment with adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation, and cropping. Compare the edited and original versions of your photos and write a short explanation of the changes you made.
