Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 2-year-old homeschool student will be able to recognize and express basic feelings.
Materials and Prep
- No additional materials are needed for this lesson.
- Prior knowledge of basic emotions (happy, sad, mad) would be helpful.
Activities
Emotion Faces: Show the student pictures of people with different facial expressions representing various feelings. Ask the student to identify and imitate each emotion.
Emotion Charades: Act out different emotions (e.g., happy, sad, mad) and have the student guess what emotion you are portraying.
Feeling Song: Sing a simple song about feelings, incorporating different emotions and encouraging the student to sing along and mimic the facial expressions.
Emotion Matching: Prepare cards with pictures of different emotions and ask the student to match each picture to the corresponding emotion.
Feelings Collage: Provide magazines or printed pictures of people displaying various emotions. Help the student cut out the pictures and create a collage representing different feelings.

"When we are sad, our faces might look like this. Can you make a sad face with me?"
"Sometimes we get mad or angry. Can you show me your angry face?"
"It's important to understand our feelings and know that it's okay to feel different things."
"When we can recognize our own feelings, it helps us communicate with others better."
"Let's practice different emotions together. Can you show me how you would look if you were surprised or excited?"
"Remember, it's okay to feel sad or mad sometimes. We just need to find healthy ways to express and cope with our feelings."
