Squirrel Behavior
Squirrels are small, furry animals that you often see running around in parks and forests. They are very active and love to climb trees! Here are some interesting things about how squirrels behave:
Gathering Food: Squirrels spend a lot of time looking for food like nuts, seeds, and berries. In the fall, they collect lots of nuts and hide them in different places. This is called “caching.” They do this so they have food to eat during the winter when it's harder to find food.
Climbing and Jumping: Squirrels are amazing climbers! They can jump from tree to tree really fast and don’t usually fall. Their sharp claws help them hold onto tree bark.
Communication: Squirrels talk to each other using sounds and tail movements. If a squirrel feels scared, it might flick its tail or make a barking noise to warn other squirrels.
Nesting: Squirrels make nests called "dreys" high up in trees. These nests are made of leaves, twigs, and moss, and keep the squirrels warm and safe.
Active Times: Squirrels are usually most active during the day, especially in the morning and late afternoon. At night, they usually rest.
