Chapter 1: Before Breakfast
In the first chapter, we meet a little girl named Fern who lives on a farm with her father and mother. One morning, Fern discovers that her father is going to kill a piglet. The piglet is very small and weak, and Fern feels sorry for it. She loves animals and convinces her father to let her keep the piglet. She names the piglet Wilbur.
Chapter 2: Wilbur
Fern takes care of Wilbur and feeds him every day. He grows bigger and bigger. However, when Wilbur is a little older, Fern's father decides that they need to sell him. Fern is very sad about this and cries, but she has to let him go. A neighbor named Mr. Zuckerman buys Wilbur, and he goes to live in a barn on the Zuckerman farm. Fern visits Wilbur often because she misses him.
