Summary

In the first two chapters of "Charlotte's Web," we meet a young girl named Fern who lives on a farm. One day, Fern learns that her father is going to kill a runt piglet because it is too small. She begs her father to spare the piglet’s life, and he agrees. Fern names the pig Wilbur and takes care of him. Wilbur grows quickly and soon becomes too big for Fern to keep, so she has to sell him to her neighbor, Mr. Zuckerman. Wilbur feels sad and lonely when he goes to live on the Zuckerman farm. He misses Fern and worries about what will happen to him.
