Definitions
- Simple Sentence: A sentence that contains one independent clause and expresses a complete thought.
Example: The cat sleeps. - Compound Sentence: A sentence that contains at least two independent clauses joined by a conjunction (e.g., and, but, or).
Example: The cat sleeps, and the dog barks. - Complex Sentence: A sentence that contains one independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
Example: The cat sleeps when the sun sets. - Compound-Complex Sentence: A sentence that has at least two independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.
Example: The cat sleeps when the sun sets, and the dog plays outside.
