Instructions
In this activity, you will create a small sculpture that will be a replica of an old statue in your area. Gather your materials and follow the steps below!
Materials Needed:
- Clay (air-dry clay is best)
- Pipe cleaners
- Paint (acrylic or watercolor)
- Paintbrushes
- Optional: beads, buttons, or other decorative items
- Tool for carving (toothpick or small knife - use with adult supervision)
Steps to Create Your Sculpture:
- Research: Look up an old statue in your area. Write down the name of the statue and a few interesting facts about it.
- Sketch Your Design: Before starting with clay, sketch what your sculpture will look like.
- Shape the Clay: Take a chunk of clay and start forming the base of your statue. Remember to build the main body first, then add features like arms, legs, and any other details.
- Add Details: Use the carving tool to add details. You can use pipe cleaners to create additional features like hair or accessories.
- Let it Dry: Once your sculpture is completed, let it dry completely (if using air-dry clay, this may take a few hours or overnight).
- Paint Your Sculpture: Once the sculpture is dry, paint it using colors that match the original statue. Use your brushes carefully!
- Display Your Work: Once the paint is dry, find a special place to display your sculpture. Take a photo of it and describe how proud you are of your work!
Enjoy the creative process and have fun making your sculpture!
