Instructions
Read the examples below and then complete the activities that follow. Remember to use quotation marks when writing dialogue and to change the verb tense when you convert dialogue into indirect speech.
Examples
Dialogue:
“I am going to the park,” said Sarah.
Indirect Speech:
Sarah said that she was going to the park.
Dialogue:
“Can you help me with my homework?” asked Tom.
Indirect Speech:
Tom asked if I could help him with his homework.
Activities
1. Write a dialogue between two friends discussing their favorite animals. Use at least 4 sentences.
2. Convert the following dialogue into indirect speech:
“I have a new bike,” said Emma. “It’s red and very fast!”
3. Write a dialogue where one person is asking for directions. Use at least 3 sentences.
4. Convert the following dialogue into indirect speech:
“Where are you going?” asked Leo. “I want to come with you!”
5. Create your own dialogue using at least 3 sentences about planning a birthday party, and then convert it into indirect speech.
