All About Lions
Lions are large, powerful animals that belong to the cat family. They are often called the "king of the jungle." Lions live in groups called prides, which usually consist of about 10 to 15 lions. A pride is made up of a few male lions, several female lions, and their cubs.
The female lions, called lionesses, do most of the hunting for the pride. They work together to catch their prey, which can include animals like zebras, antelopes, and buffalo. Male lions are responsible for protecting the pride and their territory from other predators.
Lions have a special roar that can be heard from miles away. This roar is used to communicate with other lions and to warn intruders. Lion cubs are born with spots on their fur, but these spots fade as they grow older.
