Instructions
Below you will learn about the water cycle and its four phases. Please read the information carefully and then draw a picture of the water cycle, including all four phases. You can fill in the blank spaces with your own words related to each phase!
What is the Water Cycle?
The water cycle is the process by which water moves from the ground into the air and back again, in a continuous cycle. It has four main phases:
- 1. Evaporation
- 2. Condensation
- 3. Precipitation
- 4. Collection
1. Evaporation
In this phase, water from oceans, lakes, and rivers turns into vapor due to the sun's heat. Write a few sentences explaining this phase below:
2. Condensation
As water vapor rises, it cools and forms tiny droplets, creating clouds. Describe how condensation works:
3. Precipitation
When the clouds get heavy, the water falls back to the ground as rain, snow, or sleet. What happens during this phase?:
4. Collection
Water collects in rivers, lakes, and oceans. It can also soak into the ground, becoming groundwater. Explain what collection means:
Drawing Activity
Now it's time to draw! In the box below, create a picture of the water cycle, labeling each of the four phases.
Make sure to include details like the sun, clouds, rain, and bodies of water in your drawing!
