Instructions
Read the following passages and look closely at the imagery and metaphors used to describe nature. Then, complete the activities below.
Passage 1:
The forest was a sea of green, where the trees bobbed gently like waves in the breeze. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating a dappled pattern on the ground, as if a painter had splattered gold across the rich brown soil.
Passage 2:
The mountains stood tall like ancient giants, their peaks brushed with white snow, glistening under the clear blue sky. The rushing river below sang a melody, weaving through the valleys like a silver ribbon.
Activity 1: Identify Imagery
Choose one passage above and describe the images that come to your mind when you read it. Use descriptive words.
Activity 2: Create Your Own Metaphor
Think of a natural setting that you enjoy, such as a beach, a garden, or a park. Write a metaphor to describe that setting.
Activity 3: Compare and Contrast
In a few sentences, explain how the two passages use imagery differently. What feelings do they create?
Activity 4: Nature Walk
Go outside and spend a few minutes observing nature. Write down three things you see and use imagery or metaphors to describe them.
