Read about the Four Agreements and respond to the questions below. Use the space provided to write your answers.

The Four Agreements:

  • Be Impeccable with Your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others.
  • Don't Take Anything Personally: Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality.
  • Don't Make Assumptions: Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can.
  • Always Do Your Best: Your best will change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick.

Questions:

1. What does "being impeccable with your word" mean to you? How can you apply this agreement in your daily life?

2. Have you ever taken something personally that was not about you? Describe the situation and how you felt.

3. Think of a time you made an assumption. How did it affect your understanding of the situation? What could you have done differently?

4. What does "doing your best" mean to you? How can you ensure you are always doing your best in different areas of your life?

5. Which of the Four Agreements do you find most challenging? Why do you think that is?

6. Write a short paragraph summarizing how you can incorporate the Four Agreements into your relationships with friends and family.
