Islands are landforms that are surrounded by water on all sides. They can be formed in different ways. Put the following steps in order to show how a volcanic island might form:
Magma rises from beneath the Earth's surface
A volcano erupts, spewing lava and ash
The lava cools and hardens on the ocean floor
Plants and animals begin to grow and inhabit the land
Over time, layers of lava build up and create a new island
Wind, waves, and rain shape the island's landscape
