Instructions
Let's conduct a fun and easy science experiment! Follow the steps below and answer the questions as you go through the activity.Materials Needed:
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- A small plastic bottle
- A spoon
- A shallow tray or plate
- Food coloring (optional)
- Dish soap (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- First, mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with a little water in the tray to form a thick paste.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to the baking soda mixture (if using). What color did you choose?
- Spoon the colored baking soda mixture into the plastic bottle, filling it about 1/4 of the way.
- Pour 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar into the bottle. What do you observe happening?
- Add a few drops of dish soap to the vinegar before pouring it into the bottle. Did this change the reaction? Explain.
- Repeat the experiment a few times, trying different amounts of baking soda and vinegar. How does this affect the reaction?
What Did You Learn?
Write down your thoughts about this experiment. What happens when baking soda and vinegar mix? Why is this reaction important?
Draw Your Observations
Draw a picture of what happened during the experiment. Label the reacting materials and the products formed.
