Chameleons are masters of disguise. Many people believe they change color to blend in with their surroundings, but that's not the main reason. Chameleons actually change their color to show their mood, to react to light and temperature, or to communicate with other chameleons. A calm chameleon might be green or brown. If it gets angry or scared, it might turn dark colors. Some can even show vibrant patterns when they want to attract a mate. Their amazing ability comes from special cells in their skin that can expand or shrink.
