Instructions
A Venn diagram helps us sort things into groups called 'sets'. Items that belong to one group go in one circle. Items that belong to another group go in the second circle. If an item belongs to BOTH groups, it goes in the middle where the circles overlap. If it belongs to NEITHER group, it stays outside the circles.
Part 1: Sorting Numbers
Look at the list of numbers below. Sort these numbers into the correct place on the Venn diagram.
- 6
- 10
- 15
- 7
- 20
- 9
- 25
- 12
- 2
- 30
Multiples of 5
Even Numbers
Part 2: Reading a Venn Diagram
The Venn diagram below shows the results of a survey about which fruits students in a class like.
Likes Apples
9
Likes Bananas
7
5
3
Use the diagram to answer the questions below.
- How many students like only apples?
- How many students like only bananas?
- How many students like both apples and bananas?
- How many students do not like apples or bananas?
- How many students like apples altogether? (Hint: add the 'apples only' and 'both' sections)
- How many students were surveyed in total?
Answer Key
Part 1: Sorting Numbers
- Multiples of 5 only: 15, 25
- Even Numbers only: 6, 12, 2
- Both (Multiples of 5 AND Even): 10, 20, 30
- Neither (Outside): 7, 9
Part 2: Reading a Venn Diagram
- 9
- 7
- 5
- 3
- 14 (because 9 + 5 = 14)
- 24 (because 9 + 7 + 5 + 3 = 24)
