Welcome back! Remember, singular means there is only one of something, and plural means there is more than one. Let's learn some new rules for making words plural.

Part 1: Adding "-es"

For words that end in -s, -x, -z, -ch, or -sh, we add -es to make them plural.

Example: one bus → two buses

Now you try! Write the plural form for each word below.

  1. fox → ____________________
  2. witch → ____________________
  3. glass → ____________________
  4. bench → ____________________
  5. dish → ____________________
  6. buzz → ____________________

Part 2: Words Ending in "y"

This rule has two parts!

  • If a word ends in a consonant + y, change the y to an i and add -es.
    Example: puppy → puppies
  • If a word ends in a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) + y, just add -s.
    Example: key → keys

Write the correct plural form for each word in the chart.

Singular Plural
berry ____________________
day ____________________
story ____________________
toy ____________________
city ____________________

Part 3: The Rule Breakers!

Some words don't follow any rules. We call them irregular plurals. You just have to learn them!

Draw a line to match the singular word to its plural partner.

child feet

foot children
