Let's learn about two types of naming words: Common Nouns and Proper Nouns!

  • A Common Noun is a general name for any person, place, or thing. It usually starts with a lowercase letter.
    Examples: girl, city, dog, holiday

  • A Proper Noun is a special name for a particular person, place, or thing. It ALWAYS starts with a capital letter.
    Examples: Maria, Paris, Spot, Christmas

Activity 1: Matching Fun!

Draw a line to match the general common noun on the left to its special proper noun on the right.

    Explanation: The sentence asks for a general word for a place, a "common noun."
