Plant Recap: Let's Review!
Types of Plants
- Trees: These are the giants of the plant world! They are very big, tall, and strong. They have a thick, hard, and woody main stem called a trunk. Branches grow out from the trunk. Examples: Mango tree, Oak tree, Banyan tree.
- Shrubs: These plants are smaller than trees. They are bushy because they have many thin, woody stems that grow from the ground. Examples: Rose bush, Hibiscus, Jasmine.
- Climbers: These plants have very weak stems. They cannot stand up on their own, so they "climb" by taking support from walls, other plants, or sticks to grow upwards. Examples: Money plant, Grapevine, Pea plant.
- Creepers: These plants also have very weak stems. Instead of climbing up, they "creep" or spread along the ground. They often have big fruits. Examples: Pumpkin, Watermelon, Strawberry.
- Thorny Plants: These plants have sharp, pointy parts called thorns. Thorns are like a little shield, protecting the plant from being eaten by animals. A thorny plant can be a tree, a shrub, or a climber. Examples: Cactus, Rose bush, Lemon tree.
Where Do Plants Live?
- Garden Plants: These are plants that grow outdoors in a garden. They are planted in the soil and get direct sunlight and rain. They usually need more space to grow.
- Houseplants: These are plants that are grown indoors, inside our homes. They are usually kept in pots and need less sunlight. We have to water them ourselves.
