Plant Facts Recap

Let's review the different kinds of plants you can find all around you!

  • Trees: These are very big and strong plants. They have a single, thick, hard, and woody stem called a trunk. Branches grow from the trunk. (Example: Oak Tree, Mango Tree)
  • Shrubs: These plants are smaller than trees. Instead of one trunk, they have many hard, woody stems that grow from the ground, making them look bushy. (Example: Rose Plant, Hibiscus)
  • Climbers: These plants have weak stems. They cannot stand up on their own, so they "climb" by taking support from walls, sticks, or other plants. (Example: Money Plant, Grapevine)
  • Creepers: Like climbers, these plants also have weak stems. But instead of climbing up, they "creep" or spread out along the ground. (Example: Pumpkin, Watermelon)
  • Thorny Plants: These plants have sharp, pointy parts called thorns. Thorns are like a coat of armor that protects the plant from being eaten by animals. (Example: Cactus, Lemon Plant)

Garden Plants vs. Houseplants

The main difference is where they grow! Garden plants are grown outside in the soil of a garden. They are strong enough to handle sunlight, wind, and rain. Houseplants are grown inside our homes in pots. They usually need less direct sunlight and are protected from harsh weather.
